JESIN Mini TUTORIAL (en)

Hello and welcome to your new casting adventure with JESIN! I, Steffi (the creative mind behind the JESIN and COLORBERRY brands), am delighted that you are holding JESIN in your hands and want to try it out.

It will unleash your creativity in a whole new way and you won't be able to stop ;) (at least that's how 99% of JESIN users feel) *hehe*

Briefly the most important advantages of JESIN

  • very easy mixing ratio
  • long working time of 20 minutes
  • short curing time of 20-30 minutes
  • more unbreakable than conventional casting powder
  • extremely color-intensive staining possible
  • great marbling effects thanks to the special viscosity of the casting compound
  • ideal for candle holders and tealight holders, as it is fire-protection classified

JESIN is a versatile, modern and almost silky-soft casting compound that is often used for creative projects such as making home accessories (e.g. coasters, candle holders). It consists of a powder and a liquid and is particularly smooth, durable and has an official fire safety classification.

Materials you need:

JESIN - powder and liquid (mixing ratio 2:1)
Silicone mold (flexible plastic molds or alternatives are also suitable)
Color pigments (e.g. LIQU-MENTs)
Mixing tools + Scale (beaker + stirring sticks)

Step-by-step instructions:

Prepare your workplace:

Make sure your workspace is clean and you have a base on your table ( e.g. cut open plastic bag).

Mix JESIN:

Combine the powder and liquid in a 2:1 ratio by weight. For example, for 300 g mixture you need 200 g powder and 100 g liquid. Stir until the mixture is smooth. Take your time stirring until there are no more lumps - we have 20 minutes processing time! You should have a creamy, almost pancake batter-like consistency - then the mixture is ready for pouring into silicone molds.

Add color:

Add pigments (just a few drops, maximum 5% of the total mixture). Be careful not to use too much color, as this can weaken the material. LIQU-MENTs are best suited for coloring JESIN. A few drops of the dye produce a pastel tone, more drops a more intensive coloration. CAUTION: Too much color can discolor your silicone mold.

Pour into the mold:

Carefully pour the mixture into a silicone mold. Tap the mold lightly or use a vibrating device to remove air bubbles or bring them to the surface. JESIN captures the finest details, so molds with textures can deliver great results.

Allow to cure:

JESIN will cure in approximately 20-30 minutes. Carefully remove the workpiece from the mold and allow it to fully cure for another 24 hours to achieve maximum stability.

Important tips

Molds: Silicone molds are ideal, but waxed cardboard or melamine can also work.
Do not use resin dyes: JESIN works best with pigments made specifically for it. Resin-based pigments can damage the material.

Versatile applications: JESIN is fire retardant and is great for projects like candle holders.

Matt surface: Unlike resin, JESIN has a matt surface, which gives it a modern, soft appearance. By sealing it, you get a more resistant surface.
You are completely free in your creative design: Terrazzo, marble, color-blocking, spraying, painting, drilling,...

Last but not least, a few more tips on the most frequently asked questions:

1) Food safe - JESIN is NOT food safe, however you can make it food safe with a food safe sealer (e.g. natural beeswax).

2) Drilling & sanding - JESIN can be safely processed further after complete curing, such as drilling or sanding. When sanding, please always sand wet.

3) Waterproof - JESIN is not waterproof, but you can make your JESIN water-repellent with suitable sealants. JESIN is therefore more suitable for indoor use.

With JESIN you can discover numerous creative possibilities for durable and environmentally friendly decorations. Have fun crafting!
